The Black Caps have won the first one day cricket international against Bangladesh in Christchurch.

Chasing 341 to win, the visitors have been bowled out for 264.

Lockie Ferguson and Jimmy Neesham picked up three wickets apiece while earlier Tom Latham scored a massive hundred.

The opener scored 137 off 121 balls to guide New Zealand to 341 for seven.

Latham shared in a 158 run fifth wicket partnership with Colin Munro, who blitzed 87 off just 61 balls.

Latham said it's always pleasing to contribute to a win by helping put a score on the board.

Before the match, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said the team are looking forward to playing in familiar conditions.

"It's important we look to exploit those as best we can, and get back to our simple plan, which gives us our best chance."

The second match is in Nelson on Thursday.
